Dunshaughlin's Luke Mitchell

Dunshaughlin responded to their double-digit defeat to Ratoath first time out to outscore O'Mahonys at Dunsany on Sunday afternoon.

Dunshaughlin ...... 4-11
O'Mahonys ..........  2-8

Superior at the basics, Dunshaughlin opened on the front foot and were never headed. The impressive Mathew Costello gave them an almost unbreakable presence around the middle of the field.

O'Mahonys stayed in touch and had the deficit down to a goal, 2-8 to 1-8,  by the 46th minute following an Aodhan Mallon goal and a Stephen Bray point.

Mallon's goal is worthy of note. The wing-back soloed forward. Following an exchange with full-forward Eoin Joyce he flicked the leather to the net in the 40th minute at the clubhouse end. Bray's second point followed.

Dunshaughlin responded positively securing the points with a brace of goals to move 12 points clear before O'Mahonys' next score.

One of Dunshaughlin's standout players, Mathew Moyles bagged the first in the sequence while the provider Ruairi Kinsella netted the fourth to leave it 4-8 to 1-8 at the water break.

Sub Marc Leddy moved the team in black-and-amber 10 points clear before county man Matthew Costello closed his side account from a 45 followed by an excellent effort from play.

The latter stages turned niggly with Duggie Dillon departing in the 49th minute on receipt of his second yellow card. Later Stephen Bray was redcarded in the 57th minute following an exchange of niggles involving players from both sides. .

A srappy final quarter trundled on to for nearly 37 minutes. With the last act of the game, Brian O'Hanlon netted a low penalty past David Jennings to improve O'Mahonys points 'difference.

Luke Mitchell's accuracy from play and frees was the standout feature of the opening quarter. Matthew Moyles' first point left Dunshaughlin 0-4 to 0-2 ahead at the water break.

A brace of Jake Regan pointed frees trimmed O'Mahonys' deficit to the minimum, 0-4 to 0-5, by the 24th minute. Dunshaughlin displayed their resilience by moving five points clear, 1-7 to 0-5 at half-time.

Costello's forward run set up wing-back Fursey Blake for the opening goal in the 25th minute leaving Dunshaughlin in a strong positiion heading into the second-half.

Just as they did in the opening half, Dunshaughlin displayed the required resilience when their dominance was under threat.
