Na Fianna: 2-8 Skryne: 0-17
Na Fianna senior footballers travelled to Skryne on Wednesday evening for Round 3 of the Feis Cup.
Na Fianna opened their scoring with a well taken Daniel Queeney point who shortly afterwards picked up an injury and had to be replaced. Both teams had plenty of goal chances during the first half. An excellent long-range pass delivered by Mikey Collins was caught by Jamie Queeney who buried the ball to the net. Shortly afterwards a Skryne forward was fouled in front of goal. The resulting penalty was brilliantly stopped by Shane Geraghty who dived to his left-hand corner. Jamie was unlucky not to add a second goal shortly afterwards. Points from Luke Kelly, Jack McNally, Ciaran McDonnell and Jamie Queeney kept the sides close going in at the break.
Skryne started the second half the brightest with a number of unanswered points. Na Fianna were kept scoreless for the first quarter of the second half. Five points behind, Owen McDonnell fisted to the net from a well worked Jamie Queeny run. A Na Fianna comeback was on the cards with ten minutes remaining. Excellent points from Damien Downey and a free from Jack McNally made it all even. This game was decided in the last five minutes of play, a couple of missed opportunities allowed Skryne to capitalise and kick three points to finish the game on top.
