A feat that has yet to be matched

Meath captain Colm O'Rourke is about to get his hands on the Leinster SFC Cup

Croke Park at the end of July 1990 and another milestone in the history of Meath GAA.

Croke Park provided the setting for the Royals first ever Leinster Senior and Minor football championship double.

This particular double, unlike the senior - junior feat, had so far proved an elusive prize for Meath.

Meath's frustration with the double began in 1954 when they won the senior but lost the minor, a year later it was a double defeat. In 1970 the seniors beat Offaly but the minors lost to Dublin and in 1977 the same story but in reverse. Meath beat Dublin in the '86 Leinster SFC final but our minors went under to the same opposition. A repeat of these results in 1988 left Meath still seeking that elusive double, that was until the 1990 double header at Croke Park.

A Colm O'Rourke goal proved crucial as Meath regained the senior title beating Dublin 1-14 to 0-14, Brian Stafford hitting 8 points that day while the minors claimed the Royals fifth such title brushing aside a very strong Kildare side 1-19 to 1-6 to complete another glorious day for Meath football at Croke Park. A feat that has yet to be matched to this day.

Meath completed the clean sweep of Leinster titles that year also claiming the Provincial Junior and Under 21 crowns.

The double in the All Ireland final looked to be on the cards when the minors defeated Kerry 2-11 to 2-9 but unfortunatly Meath seniors lost out to Cork.
