Duleek Bellewstown 3-21 Donaghmore Ashbourne 2-6

Duleek Bellewstown advanced to the quarter finals of the Meade Potato Intermediate Football championship with a comfortable win over Donaghmore Ashbourne in Masterson Park Ardcath on Sunday afternoon.

A three Point burst with two points from John Flood , one from a free  and Pauric Howard in the opening  5 minutes had the team in front for a lead that they never relinquished and a further three by Jamie Flaherty, Shane Crosby and John Mc Donnell had extended the lead to six before Donaghmore Ashbourne opened their account with a goal against the run of play and which gave them a boost. And they further reduced the gap with a pointed free at the end of the first quarter.

John Mc Donnell then got himself at the end of a cross field pass and found the back of the net and this was followed shortly afterwards by another Flood point  and a Shane Crosby rasper to the roof of the net  to extend the gap even further. A goal from Pauric Howard  and points from David Moore and a Mark Collins free left the score at 3-10 to 1-2 at the break.

While Donaghmore Ashbourne opened well from the resumption six successive points from Mark Collins, Jamie Flaherty, Shane Crosby and John Flood put the game to bed in the third quarter. The bench was emptied at this stage to get game time into players and within a minute of coming on Gary Reddy had pointed.

Donaghmore Ashbourne had a brief recovery and scored a goal and a point to cut the gap but further points from James Mc Weeney , two from Jamie Crosby, and a point each from Mark Collins and Cianan Byrne brought the scoring to an end.

With three teams finishing the league section on eight points Duleek Bellewstown finished second on score difference. Finishing second in the group the next game is a quarter final pairing against Group B winners Trim who had a convincing win over Castletown in their final game.
