Feis Cup: Short trip but no joy for Curraha

May 17, 2019

Curraha's David Coyle

Donaghmore/Ashbourne 3-12   Curraha 2-10

Curraha made the short trip to their neighbours but despite dominating the first quarter they lost out by five points to Donaghmore /Ashbourne in this first round knockout fixture.

With Curraha enjoying most of the possession they got off the mark with a point from Andrew Battersby after seven minutes with the home side levelling two minutes later.

Curraha hit back with two pointed frees from Jack O'Connor and a Brian Murphy point. The hosts then hit a purple patch and hit two goals and as many points in the space of five minutes.

The visitors immediately responded with David Coyle getting in for the first of his two goals, this was followed by a Donaghmore/Ashbourne. As the game was heading towards the break Coyle again gained possession a fired home a superb goal to level the game, a lapse in concentration from the visitors then allowed the home side  to get in for their third goal in first half stoppage time.

Scores were not as easy to come by in the second half as points from O'Connor from a free and an excellent forty-five along with scores from Neil Shortall, Gavin Coyle and two from David Coyle were cancelled out by similar efforts from the hosts who added two more points in stoppage time.

Credit also to Curraha goalkeeper Luke McCarthy who pulled three fine saves in the second half.

This was an entertaining game with Curraha left to rue not making the most of their chances.
