FL Div 4: Kilbride shade it in wintry Cortown

March 11, 2019

Kilbride's Jamie McWeeney

Cortown 2-7 Kilbride 2-8

Only the brave stood out for this one as Kilbride travelled to Cortown for round 5 of the A league. It wasn't a day for pretty football as the snow came pelting down just before throw in.

The home side dominated the early exchanges but only registered a point during this period. Kilbrides first score was a goal and as the game settled down both teams traded scores, and entering into the mid point of the first half the swirling wind didnt allow for good football but Kilbride were shading it. The secod goal came on 16 minutes and Kilbride extended their lead to 5 but a Cortown goal left 2 in as half time approached. Kilbride kicked the final score of the half to lead at the break.

Half time Cortown 1-4 Kilbride 2-4

Kilbride kicked the first score of the second half but failed to kick on as the wides started to mount, Cortowns dominace reduced the arrears to a solid point and with five minutes left the home side hit
the front with a well taken goal. This was a wake up call for the visitors and a converted free levelled things and with a draw most likely Kilbride had other ideas and when they gathered the resulting
kick out and it was slotted over to nudge the visitors ahead deep into injury time and secure another two points to keep there promotion push alive.
