Bective 2-08  Nobber 1-11

Bective played host to Nobber for this Division 2 league game on their sand based pitch.

The ref, wisely, delayed the throw-in by 5 minutes to allow a severe sleet shower to pass.

Playing into the strong wind Bective acquitted themselves well in holding possession, and turnovers, and limited Nobber to 2 points from frees. Mark Dowdall opened Bective’s account with a fine point from play on 10 minutes and followed up with a pointed free kick after a foul on Cathal McConnell. Nobber kept up the pressure on the Bective backs and pointed 2 more free kicks. Bective looking lively carried through the middle and found Mark O’Brien in space to wallop the ball to the Nobber net. Nobber again won frees and scored 2 points from close range and these were followed by a Sean Keating point from play to close the half with Bective 1-3 to Nobber 0-6. 

Bective now, having held the score to level pegging into a very strong wind, would have been expected to reap the fruits of their possession and gain scoring advantage but Nobber had ideas of their own and started with a fisted point, quickly followed with a fine solo goal and a pointed free-kick from former Bective underage star Dale Larkin. Bective had to await a pointed free from Paul McCabe on the 13th minute to start to come back into this game. Nobber pointed again from a free kick, and Bective responded with a pointed free from McCabe and point from play from Dowdall. This was followed by a Sean Meade point from play and a further point from Larkin for Nobber. It now seemed that time would run out for Bective but 2 points from Sean Keating left just a goal in it.

Ciaran McConnell, who had worked hard in the middle third, drifted forward and was dragged down in the square for a penalty. Sean Keating goaled and the match ended all square on the next kick-out, leaving the Bective camp relieved although frustrated with the amount of free kicks given away close to goal.
