FL Div 2: Stalemate in Carnaross

March 11, 2019

Trim's James Cullen

Carnaross 1-11  Trim 1-11

On Saturday evening Carnaross and Trim battled out this division 2 mid table encounter, both with the hope of progressing up the table.

From start to finish it was nip and tuck for much of the game. Daire Lynch got Trim off to a decent start with two points, however these were matched by two fine scores from Carnaross. Both teams fought hard in tricky heavy conditions. Brian Dowling landed 3 points in a row for Trim to keep them in touch and just before the break, Ian Birmimgham scored a cracker off his left boot to leave the minimum in it at half time.

Half time substitute Dimmy Higgins started the second half with a score within a minute of his introduction to the game. James Cullen then hit net to give Trim a bit of breathing space. However, it was Carnaross who took over the scoring and then scored 1-2 without reply. The last 10 minutes Trim didn’t panic and got back in the game finishing with 4 more points from Beano Dowling giving him a total of 7 on the night. Dimmy Higgins was left in the clear 14 yards out with a minute to play but unfortunately for Trim he had a bit of a Dessie Dolan moment, which in fairness is unlike the stylish forward. In the last few weeks we have seen many new, young faces to Trim teams, On Saturday Brian Bolger put in a good performance turning over possession on many occasions and working hard throughout. Ian Birmimgham once again made his physicality count and scored a marvellous point from distance. The more experienced Alan Douglas brought pace to the middle sector of field and in fairness to the Trim forwards they battled hard, on an evening where conditions didn’t suit forwards.

While Trim might feel they left this behind them, Carnaross will feel the same. A good preparation match for Trim as they begin to get ready to open their campaign against Ballinabrackey in 4 weeks time in the hope of lifting the Mattie Mc’Donnell cup next autumn.
