Boardsmill's Rory Gordon

Boardsmill 3-09 St Brigids 3-08

Boardsmill welcomed St Brigids on a sunny Saturday afternoon to contest the Division 4 A league.

With Boardsmill lining out without a couple of the regular starting 15 a stern test was in store and it was the visiting team who struck with a goal from the penalty spot. Boardsmill responded with a point straight from the kick out when the ball broke down to Eric McKay who cut inside and split the posts. The game flowed from end to end with St Brigids tagging on 4 points and midway through the half Boardsmill composed themselves and got a goal through the highly talented Rory Gordon and a flurry of points from the veteran Hamilton, sharpshooter Niall Durkin and midfielder Cathal Wall.

Resolute defending from the Boardsmill backs kept the St Brigid's forwards quiet. Jack Dixon stopped numerous shots on goal with some splendid blocking, Connor Darby and Liam O Brien were the instigators of many of the Boardsmill attacks and were supported well by Cian Royston and Cathal Wall. St Brigids found the Boardsmill net in the closing stages of the half but the visitors held a four point advantage at the break 2-5 to 1-4.

Boardsmill came out a different team at the start of the second half and it was the man again Rory Gordon who tagged on two beautiful points from the left boot.  These were followed up by a well taken goal from the energetic John Mitchell to push the 'Mills' noses in front by 1. St Brigids weren't lying down and tagged on 2 points to steal back the lead but Boardsmill struck back through Niall Durkin to equalize.

The home side went ahead again through Hamilton who was playing as a lone full forward and terrorized his marker with his constant running. A good passage of play from Brigids saw the North Meath club hit 1-1 and open up a 3 point lead.

Boardsmill weren't defeated yet. Gordon earned a penalty and duly converted to level the game with five minutes remaining. The impressive Gordan pushed Boardsmill ahead with a fine point. That score proved to be the games last as The Mill went on to record their fourth win of the campaign.

Best for Boardsmill were Rory Gordon, Jack Dixon, Keith Hamilton and John Mitchell
