Rathmolyon held a challenge match in memory of former club player and Meath minor Evan Brennan, who tragically died last year.
The sun shone on Rathmolyon on Thursday night, where two teams gathered at the centre of the pitch to remember former Rathmolyon and Meath hurler Evan Brennan, who tragically died in a car accident in May of 2017. Dublin side St Peregrines, were the visitors to 'The Village' for this challenge match in memory of Evan. The Rathmolyon team was made up of the current senior squad along with former Rathmolyon players, and friends of Evan.

A minutes applause before the game
Even though the match was a friendly, the first half saw its fair share of heavy tackles with each team exchanging points in an evenly matched contest, finishing the half level. In the second half, Rathmolyon edged the Dublin side, and finally extended their lead by six points with a goal by Gary Doherty mid-way through the half. Rathmolyon rotated their team with former greats (including the now grounds keeper and vice chairman Terry Pearle) taking to the pitch. A late rally by the vistors narrowed the gap to two points but Rathmolyon held out for the win.

Evan's mother Sandra and brother Shane present medals
The night ended with a commemorative medal presentation by Evans parents Shane and Sandra, and his brother Sean to the players of each team, surrounded by family and friends and the wider community.
