JFC C: Oldcastle goals sinks Gaels

April 16, 2018

Alan Meade gets in his pass for Simonstown against Oldcastle in Athboy

Simonstown Gaels 1-3 Oldcastle 4-6

It was the turn of Simonstown's Junior Cs after our second team lost out narrowly to Na Fianna Meath.

The Gaels were buoyed by having Alan Meade and Sean Gough in the midfield. Gary McDonagh opened the scoring for the Gaels in the opening minutes but Oldcastle dealth the first blow of the game with a very well taken goal. Simonstown's Junior Cs had a huge amount of support with the Senior team and Junior B travelling to support and this encouragement did not go unnoticed. Andrew Burlingham and Dylan Gavin combined and created the play of the match. The two forwards exchanged passes and Gavin was very selfless to set up Burlingham. Burlingham buried an unstoppable strike past the helpless Oldcastle keeper. Score after a low scoring first half was Simonstown 1-1 Oldcastle 1-2.

Oldcastle took control of the second half and won a huge amount of breaking ball around the midfield. Each one of Oldcastle's goals were well taken. The Navan men struggled in the second half and had very little territory in the Oldcastle half but one encouraging sign was the blooding of many young players. It was the first senior championship outing for Dylan Gavin, Aaron O'Connell, Shane McEnery, Ronan Higgins and Sean Gough.
