Moylagh full back Darren Gibney celebrates after scoring the winner against Clann Na nGael in the opening round of the JFC at Ballinlough

Moylagh 1-12 Clann Na nGael 1-11

Played in Ballinlough on Friday evening  on a very heavy pitch, it was an unlucky Friday the 13th for Clann Na nGael who had a seven point lead after twenty minutes of the first half in this first round game of the championship.

Last years beaten finalist Moylagh were playing second fiddle for those twenty minutes, a great save from  goalkeeper Aengus Fanning preventing a certain goal that ended in a point seemed to kickstart a Moylagh revival. Darren Gibney and Jimmy Boyle started to get to grips in the backs, Colm Fanning and Joe Meila started to dominate midfield and the excellent Tommy O Reilly and Sean Reilly kicked five points between in the last seven minutes of the first half to bring Moylagh back into the game leaving Moylagh trailing by two points at half time 08-1-07.

Eanna Brody fires home Moylagh's goal.

The second half was a low scoring affair with both sets of backs working extremely hard leaving scores harder to come by. Substitute Eanna Brody gave Moylagh a one point lead after a well worked goal with ten minutes remaining but Clann Na nGael never gave up the fight and with time almost up hit two late points to equalise the game.

Moylagh to their credit worked extremely hard to produce a wonderful winning point they held the ball up very well and full back Darren (the dazzler) Gibney popped up to slot over the winning point deep into injury time.

Moylagh 1-12 Clann na nGael 1-11

Clann na nGael came up just short in this opening round Junior Championship fixture in Ballinlough Friday night. A blistering start saw the Athboy/Rathcairn lads lead by 1-5 to 0-2 after 20 mins, their goal coming from Eamonn O Donnchadha. Moylagh managed to cut the lead back to 2 points at half time through some frees from Tommy O'Reilly.

Half time score Clann na nGael 1-7 Moylagh 0-8

The second half began like the first with a young Clann team running at their opponents .However unlike the first half the Athboy/Rathcairn lads didn't register the scores during a spell of dominance. The teams were very evenly matched during the second half with scores hard to come by. A Moylagh Goal from Eanna Brody  with 10 minutes left looked to have sealed the win as they lead by 2 points. However a spirted fight back with scores from Cian Swaine and Daragh Brogan saw the sides level as the game entered injury time.
