Dunshaughlin GAA had a special celebration night to remember the winning junior championship team of 1967 and the winning intermediate championship team of 1977.
Both teams contained many great players and characters. Among them Meath greats Noel Curran and Jimmy Walsh, both sadly no longer with us. We also had Ger Dowd present. The only man to win a championship medal and ride an Irish Grand National winner, Brown Lad in 1978. Twins John and Pat Jennings were in attendance as was Paddy O'Dwyer and brother Tommy. Sadly three O'Dwyer brothers are no longer with us, Davy, John and Con, but they were represented on the night. Also in attendance was Pat O'Brien, who read out a brilliant poem that he penned himself. Michael Weed, travelled all the way from Donegal for the night. It was wonderful to see many old friends reunited.
The men of 67 and 77 have inspired other generations to pull on the black and amber jersey and to create their own little bit of history.
A big thank you to MC Brendan Cummins who gave a very colourful insight into the goings on in the years of 1967 and 1977. From the wedding of Elvis Pressley and Priscilla Beaulieu in 1967 to Grand National winner Red Rum in 1977, Brendan gave us a great run down on these two years.
To Jim Gilligan on his wonderful booklet which details the success of the two teams, to the Black Bush for hosting us and to the organising committee who helped this night come together.
