Blackhall Gaels 4-17 Drumree 2-13

Blackhall travelled to closest rivals Drumree last Sunday to play in glorious sunshine. 

The game was physical, action packed and produced some incredible scores from both sides. Blackhall, however, came away with the spoils after scoring a massive 4-17, most of which came from the fantastic Shane Whitty. Whitty, along with his brother Colm were the driving force for Blackhall throughout the game, both putting in  impressive performances. The younger Whitty was busy early on, slotting over three frees before the elder popped two over from play.

Drumree came into their own, battling the wind as well as a formidable Blackhall defence to narrow the gap to two points. Tomas Coyle produced a bit of magic to get a goal, putting the visitors in firmly in the driving seat. Six more Whitty scores, as well as a point apiece for Tom Murphy and Paul Kelly saw Blackhall comfortably ahead at half time, 1-13 to 5 points, but the second half was still to come.

With the introduction of Robert McGuinness at half time Blackhall looked to push on at the start of the second half. McGuinness had clear goal chance that had the spectators gasping when it looked to go wide. Referee, Paddy Melia, blew for a penalty, which Shane Whitty fireballed into the back of the net. Blackhall seemed to drop their tempo then and Drumree began their purple patch. After 1-4 was scored without reply, Conor Delaney managed to slot over a much needed point to get Blackhall back awake. A goal from Colm Whitty had the sideline breathing sighs of relief, however, Drumree did not lie down and managed another goal, one which would have been difficult for many intercountry goalies to deal with. 

Final score in Drumree was BHG 4-17 to 2-13, a massive 3-13 coming from the dynamic duo of the Whitty brothers.
