Kildalkey 0-15
Killyon 1-11
Neighbours and rivals Kildalkey and Killyon squared up to each other in the 1st round of the SHC at sunny Trim on Saturday evening.
This was always going to go to the wire as neither team was going to give an inch and also the added incentive that the winner of this game would be favourites to top the group so both teams tore into it to try to gain the upper hand on the other. Both teams traded points from early on with Podger Geoeghan opening the Kildalkey account and Paddy Conneely accurate from frees and play along with Ducksy Doran Kildalkey began to find they're rythym and found themselves 0-8 to 0-4 ahead but a Killyon goal seemed to rattle the Village men and the sides went in level at half time 0-10 to 1-7.
The second half was just as tight and after Sean Heavey and Paddy Conneely put Kildalkey ahead the Kilyon men hit back and as hard as they tried they couldn't shake off Kilyon .A nasty injury to captain Sean Corrigan and another to Paddy Coneely seemed to unsettle Kildalkey and a draw looked the most likely outcome at the closing stages .Gary Kelly was introduced for Mark Healy and got in for a goal chance which was brilliantly saved by Kilyon goalie Steven Quinn to keep them in the game .With time ticking down and a draw looking likely the ball fell to Kildalkeys top scorer Conneely to sail the ball between the posts to the delight of the kildalkey supporters to win the game at the death with a super score. Kilyon tried to get the equaliser but the backs stood firm and time ran out . Both teams were guilty of wasted chances and Kildalkey hit 15 wides and Kilyon 13 wides so there's plenty of improving to be done by both teams best for Kildalkey were Paddy Coneely Maurice and Padraig Keogh and Podger Geoeghan
