IFC final: Nobber outclass Carnaross
October 04, 2010

Nobber captain Brian Farrell raises the Matty McDonnell Cup after victory over Carnaross in the Meath IFC final at Pairc Tailteann.
Nobber 3-12
Carnaross 0-7
Nobber are back among the elite of Meath football after coasting to victory over Carnaross in a one-sided intermediate final on Sunday.
The victors were quickly out of the blocks, with Meath county star Brian Farrell underlining his recent excellent form with three points inside the first five minutes.
He was not ploughing a lone furrow, however, and wing forward Brendan Heffernan was chief among his scoring allies, plundering 1-2 in the first half to help Davy Cahill's side into a 1-8 to 0-4 interval lead.
Nobber's domination continued after the interval and could have been further in front but Colin Clarke's seemingly legitimate goal was disallowed by referee David Gough.
They didn't have to wait long for their second three-pointer, though, with Alan Farrell converting a penalty past Cillian Comaskey between the Carnaross sticks.
Another goal arrived soon afterwards, with Darren Lambe benefiting from a mix-up in the Carnaross rearguard.
Nor was it all about attacking prowess, with full back Brian O'Reilly nullifying the influence of Carnaross danger-man John L McGee virtually throughout, and the Nobber celebrations could begin long before the final whistle sounded on a 3-12 to 0-7 victory.
The victory marked a second intermediate crown in the space of three years for manager Davy Cahill's - the former Bective boss, who represented Nobber in his playing days, also guided St Ultan's to the Mattie McDonnell Cup in 2008.
He steered Ultan's to the quarter-finals of the senior football championship 12 months ago before leaving for Nobber, and Sunday's win marks the end of an exceptional first year in charge.
Cahill was assisted on the day from Meath forward legend Bernard Flynn, who has been involved with the club in an advisory capacity for a number of months.
At the end of the game, Nobber captain Brian Farrell was presented with the Mattie McDonnell Cup by Meath County Board vice chairman Eugene Comaskey - whose three sons, Cillian, Eamonn and Brian - were part of the Carnaross side.
