McHale named new Mayo ladies football manager

Roscommon's selector Liam McHale

The Mayo ladies football manager appointment saga has ended with Liam McHale being ratified for a three-year term.

The former star midfielder, who served as a Mayo senior men's selector this year, was initially recommended to replace Michael Moyles, only for the proposal to be rejected by the Mayo executive. However, he was then invited to re-enter the process when it was discovered that the procedural manual was flawed.

McHale's backroom team will include his former Mayo team-mates Kenneth Mortimer and Dermot Flanagan, while former county minor and League of Ireland goalkeeper Michéal Schlingermann will be goalkeeping coach.

Mayo LGFA posted on Facebook: "Delegates at the monthly County Board meeting held tonight have ratified the appointment of Liam McHale as the new Mayo Senior Ladies Manager for the next 3 years. Mayo LGFA would like to wish Liam and his management team the very best of luck & success in this role & thank them for coming on board with us."
