Former Mayo star Colm Boyle has lamented the absence of the minor final from All-Ireland final day.
The minor finals were traditionally played as the curtain-raiser to the senior finals at Croke Park up until a few years ago when the age was lowered to U17. This year’s minor football decider between Derry and Monaghan was staged at the BOX-IT Athletic Grounds in Armagh three weeks ago, while the minor hurling final between Clare and Galway was played as part of a double-header with the U20 decider in Thurles at the beginning of June.
Boyle tweeted: “There is something not right about the (TV) coverage for the biggest day of the year starting only an hour before throw in. The minor final is such a loss on All-Ireland final day.”
