Mayo secured their place in the Allianz Football League Division 1 final thanks to an emphatic 1-17 to 0-9 win over relegation-threatened Donegal in Ballybofey.

The visitors broke away in the closing 10 minutes of the first-half with unanswered points from Aidan O’Shea (2), Ryan O’Donoghue and Matthew Ruane that sent them towards a 0-11 to 0-6 lead at the break.

With their topflight status, things got immediately worse for Donegal after the turnaround when O’Donoghue lashed the ball to their net just two minutes into the restart.

Jordan Flynn’s point made it a nine-point game and the margin would be at double figures after scores via O’Donoghue and O’Shea outweighed a Oisin Gallen point.

The closing quarter of an hour would only see the home side registering two more points as Kevin McStay’s men cruised to a fourth league win and final berth, leaving their Tir Chonaill counterparts in need of a big win over Roscommon next weekend to avoid relegation.
