Mayo inflicted Monaghan with their first loss of the Allianz Hurling League Division 3A campaign by recording an emphatic 5-25 to 0-13 win over the Farney men at Hastings MacHale Park on Sunday afternoon.

The hosts hit four of their goals in the first-half via Jason Coyne, Eoin Delaney, Sean Kenny and Adrian Philips as they carried in an assailable 4-14 to 0-7 lead at the half.

Fergal Rafter’s points looked to take some tarnish off the scoreboard for Monaghan but Daniel Huane would hammer in the Westerners’ fifth goal soon after as they recorded their first win of the campaign with a round remaining.

In Dr Hyde Park, Roscommon were also in ruthless form as they trounced Armagh by 2-20 to 0-6 for their first win of the campaign.

Having drawn two and lost one before this, the Rossies hit the ground running in this one and went on to run up a 0-14 to 0-3 lead by the break before the second-half goals of Naos Connaughton and Conor Mulry inflicted more misery on the visitors.

Louth also sit in joint second in the table on four points ahead of next weekend’s final round of games after edging Fermanagh by 0-19 to 1-15 in Darver.

Stephen Stafford’s struck the all-important point for the Wee County in the second minute of injury-time, ensuring they stay in the hunt for a final berth heading into next Saturday’s showdown at home against safety-chasing Mayo.
