Stephen Coen is the new Mayo senior football captain.

The 26-year-old from the Hollymount-Carramore club has been named as the man to lead James Horan's charges through the 2022 season.

He replaces Aidan O'Shea who skippered the westerners to their second successive All-Ireland final last September.

A senior debutant in 2015, Coen's leadership qualities are there for all to see having previously captained his county to All-Ireland minor and U21 glory.

Meanwhile, Castlebar Mitchels defender Paddy Durcan and The Neale attacker Tommy Conroy will share the role of vice-captain in 2022.
