James Califf - Dreadnots

DREADNOTS 1-21

O RAGHALLAIGHS 3-9

Dreadnots booked their place in the last four of the Louth Senior Championship with victory over O Raghallaighs in a high-scoring encounter at The Grove on Sunday afternoon.

The Clogherhead side were on top for much of the game but had to survive a slight scare near the end before coming through with a deserved six-point success to set up a meeting with Newtown Blues in the semi-final.

The opening minutes of the game were evenly contested with O Raghallaighs twice taking the lead through Danny Morgan and Ruairi Moore only for Liam Shevlin and James Califf to level matters.

The Dreadnots then moved up a gear and after Califf put them ahead, Nathan Sutherland scored the opening goal of the game as they side went 1-6 to 0-2 in front.

The Drogheda side hit back before the break when Ben Rogan scored a goal from a penalty to cut the gap to 1-9 to 1-5 at the break.

The Dreadnots regained the initiative in the second half and some well taken points helped them open up a ten point gap.

The O Raghallaighs refused to give up and two goals in quick succession from Chris Smith and a second from an own goal following a goalmouth scramble, brought the gap back to four points in the closing moments. However, the Dreadnots regained their composure and kicked two late points to seal the win.
