Ladies Division 2 League Semi Final - 10th July in Beaulieu

St Fechins 2-9 Glyde Rangers 1-6

St Fechins ladies maintained their 100% record in the league when making it six wins on the trot at home to Glyde Rangers in the semi final of Division 2 on Sunday morning in what was a fantastic game of football. The Fechins had already been confirmed as playing Division 1 senior football next year but were in search of some silverware to finish out the league.

Played in warm but windy conditions the Fechins playing their first game in seven weeks started very tentatively and the visitors with the advantage of the wind in the first half tore into it from the off. Glyde hit the first three points before Louise Mc Cullough got the first score for Fechins after a good through ball by Grace Healy. Glyde driven forward by Louth player Michelle Mc Mahon soon pressed home their advantage when hitting home a goal and two points before Roisin Kavanagh took a good pass from Clodagh Ryan and responded with a great point to leave the half time score 1-5 to 2 points.

The Fechins re-grouped at half time and with the introduction of three subs, Rachael Kinch, Hazel Haughney and Hayley Mc Donnell, came out firing in the second half. Despite this Glyde actually increased their lead to seven in the second minute of the half but that was a good as it got and amazingly were held scoreless for the remainder of the game. The Fechins were soon on top in all sectors with Orla Brennan, Anna Redmond, Grace Haughney and Katie Flynn now dominating the Glyde attack and Céire Nolan (player of the match) driving forward from midfield the majority of the second half was domiciled in the Fechins forward line and the pressure soon told. Catherine Mc Glew tapped over a free and this was soon followed by a brilliant Rachael Kinch goal. Mc Cullough then added another goal to level the match when tapping in from close range after Liz Sheridan forced a mistake from the Glyde defence and soon followed with the lead point.

At this stage it seemed that Fechins would coast to victory but in a rare foray up the field Glyde were denied a certain goal when Ellen Brodigan (who had replaced the injured Caoimhe Mc Quillan in the first half) made a brilliant save and the danger was cleared by the ever alert captain Sarah Sharkey. Again the Fechins responded knocking over five points in a row with two for Mc Glew, two for Hazel Haughney and one for Becky Howell to set up a final date with St Kevins next Sunday 17th

St Fechins scorers: Louise Mc Cullough 1-2, Catherine Mc Glew 0-3(2F), Rachael Kinch 1-0, Hazel Haughney 0-2, Roisin Kavanagh 0-1, Becky Howell 0-1
