Funeral details for Colm Horkan

Colm Horkan RIP.

Details for the State Funeral of Detective Garda Colm Horkan have been confirmed. 

The remains of the former Charlestown and Mayo U21 player, who died in the line of duty on Wednesday night, will repose at his family funeral home this afternoon. 

Removal will take place tomorrow morning to St James’ Church, Charlestown, arriving for Funeral Mass at 12noon, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. 

Predeceased by his mother Dolores and twin sister Colette, Colm is survived by his father Marty, sister Deirdre, brothers Aiden, Brendan, Dermot and Padraig.

There will be a live broadcast of the Funeral Mass on https://www.mcnmedia.tv/camera/charlestown. The Horkan family have asked people to respect Covid-19 restrictions.

Books of condolences have been set up in Castlerea and Ballaghaderreen Garda Stations where Colm Horkan had been based for 21 years.

Members of Charlestown GAA followed social distance guidelines as they formed a guard of honour from their Fr O’Hara Park grounds to the Horkan family home as Colm's remains were brought home last night.
