Cavan goalkeeper Galligan had a brilliant first half - three outstanding saves and a justified trip on McManus for goading him after the Monaghan goal.

Pierson has injured himself scoring that massive goal and it looks like he might have to be replaced. He's staying on for the time being...

Ulster championship day in Clones has never felt so surreal. It's a huge game for both teams, however. They've been waiting months for this and we are now only seconds away...

Monaghan seeking revenge for defeat to their neighbours last year. There's not much between these two teams and this one could go any way...

Hard to believe that Monaghan and Cavan are about to face off in the first match of the 2020 SFC on Halloween afternoon, behind closed doors and with wind howling across the Clones pitch. We really are living in extraordinary times.

Remember, there's no back door in the SFC this year, so either Monaghan or Cavan will be the first team to exit. Not an honour any county wants!

Team news:

There's a change to each starting XV ahead of today's Ulster SFC opener, which gets underway in about 15 minutes. Drew Wylie comes into the Monaghan side in place of Dermot Malone, while Stephen Smith replaces Chris Conroy for Cavan.

As if the restrictions and empty stadia weren't enough, the wind is sure to wreak havoc with this weekend's fixtures. I'll be back soon with a build-up to the Cavan-Monaghan game followed by text commentary on all the action...

Nice weather, by the way, which I suppose is to be expected at this time of year...

McDonagh Cup

In Round Two of the second tier of the hurling championship, Westmeath entertain Kerry and Carlow have home advantage against Antrim.

SHC:

There are three huge games in the senior hurling championship - two in Leinster and one in Munster. In the Leinster SHC, we have a massive double-header at Croke Park comprising Kilkenny V Dublin at 3:45 and Galway against holders Wexford at 6:15. Meanwhile, at Thurles, Cork and Waterford do battle for a place in the 2020 Munster SHC final.

SFC:

The 2020 SFC starts with the Ulster preliminary-round meeting of neighbours Cavan and Monaghan at Clones at 1:15pm. And, this evening at 7pm, Waterford welcome Limerick to Dungarvan for a Munster SFC quarter-final.
