Camogue Rovers Club Notes

May 19, 2008
Camogue Rovers vs Milford 13th May. On a beautiful summer's afternoon, in perfect football conditions, Camogue Rovers narrowly lost to Milford in Division 4 of the All County Football League on Tuesday night. The Rovers started brightly and were awarded a penalty after Roger Mulqueen was fouled in the area. Marcus Mulvihill was unlucky to see his well struck penalty rebound off the foot of the post. He soon made amends setting up Roger Mulqueen for a goal and the Rovers opening score of the game. Even though Milford dominated large parts of the first half Camogue went in to the break down by only 2 points, with George Shinnors kicking a wonder point on the stroke of half time. The Rovers started the second half eager to make up the deficit and Marcus Mulvihill scored a goal within a minute of the restart. Roger Mulqueen could do no wrong as he added another goal shortly after. Camogue were 4 points to the good with only 5 minutes remaining but conceding a soft goal and getting a man sent off proved to be the downfall of the Rovers with Milford running out 2 point winners on a scoreline of 1-14 to 3-6. Team: P. O' Rourke, S. Lyons, J. Conway, S. O' Loughlin, D. Cronin, R. Keyes (0-1), C. Mulvihill, P. Mulvihill, J. Clifford, G. Shinnors (0-1), M. Mulvihill (1-2), N. McNamara, R. Clarke, R. On Thursday night the Rovers finished the group stage of the South Junior B Football league on a winning note overcoming Galtee Gaels comfortably on a scoreline of 3-12 to 6 points. This result meant that Camogue Rovers finished top of the pile after the group stages of the league. With Marcus Mulvihill and James Clifford controlling the game from the midfield the Rovers were able to push into an early lead. Jason Hayes was in devastating form and he contributed a cracking goal and some fine points in the first half. Camogue went in at half time up by 2-7 to 0-3 with Paddy O' Rourke to thank for keeping a clean sheet as he saved a penalty in the opening period. Galtee Gaels upped their performance in the second half but the Rovers are becoming a formidable unit at the back and proved difficult to break down with credit due to every player as we defended well as a team. Roger Mulqueen continued his recent scoring spree and added another goal in the second half. The game lost its shape in the end but the Rovers tagged on a few more scores with Mikey Cronin getting the best of their points in the second half. We can look forward to a home semi final in this competition and hope to show our intent for the championship by progressing to the final. Team: P. O' Rourke, S. Lyons, J. Conway, S. O' Loughlin, D.
