Newcastle West progressed to the last six of the Limerick senior football championship thanks to a 3-14 to 0-18 win over Galtee Gaels last night in Kilmallock.

After a slow start, Thomas Quillgan’s goal got the 2023 champions motoring as they moved towards a 1-7 to 0-8 half-time lead.

Bob Childs levelled matters early in the restart with a two-point free and Sean Clancy would send the Gaels in front shortly afterwards.

However, back-to-back points by Brian Foley and Eoin Hurley steered Newcastle West in front again and the two goals in the space of three minutes from Mike McMahon would be enough to see them over the line.

Meanwhile, holders Mungret St Paul’s were 3-13 to 0-10 winners over Kildimo-Pallaskenry and Ballylanders edged out last year’s intermediate champions Askeaton Ballysteen Kilcornan by 1-14 to 0-16.
