Clare picked up their fourth win in five games in Division 3 of the Allianz Football League this evening after handing neighbours Limerick a 1-16 to 0-14 defeat in Rathkeale.

After Brian McNamara’s goal had helped them lead comfortably by 1-11 to 0-5 at the halfway stage, the Banner men were made weather the storm from the hosts that saw them cut the margin to just a goal midway through the second-half.

Barry Coleman’s point brought Limerick within two with a dozen minutes left in normal time and it took scores from Cormac Murray and Aaron Griffin to steady the Clare ship.

Aaron Griffin added two more down the home stretch for the winners as they won out by five in the end to keep their promotion push intact and plunge the Treaty men closer to the drop after a fifth consecutive loss.
