University of Limerick came from four points down at half-time to defeat DCU Dochás Éireann 1-14 to 1-13 in a rain-lashed All-Ireland Freshers 1 Hurling final last evening.
Playing in their home ground of Maguire's Field, the Limerick students looked to be in a spot of bother when they trailed by 0-4 to 0-8 at the interval. Ted Dunne, Daragh Murphy, Donagh Murphy and Ben Gaughran were all on target for the visitors, but UL turned it around in the second half.
The hosts were level within seven minutes thanks to points from Anthony Keady, Adam Screeney (two frees) and Conor Martin, only for DCU to rock them back on their heels with a goal from Luke Murphy.
But UL stormed back to take the lead with a Senan Butler goal and the winning point from Conor Martin.
UL also won the Freshers B final thanks to a penalty shootout victory over TUD last night.
