Keane, Donal
May 18, 2013
Sincere sympathy is extended to the Keane family of Loughananna Kilbehenny on the death of Donal Keane last weekend more popularly known as Donie of St. Patrick's Community Hospital, Fermoy, where he had been a patient for about three years.
Donie was a great supporter of all things in the parish, particularly the G.A.A. He followed Galtee Gaels and all Limerick teams on every occasion. He would regularly be seen cycling to the G.A.A pitch with his Hurley and slitor. Hurling was his first love and he was thrilled when Gattee Gaels and Galbally - two very strong football traditions came together to form a hurling club under the Galbally banner featuring about half of the team from each parish. Donie got tremendous enjoyment from following this team which eventually went on to capture the County Junior "B" championship.
He attended meetings of Galtee Gaels on a regular basis and at the start of every year; he would be one of the first to pay his annual membership fee. He attended all parish functions and always contributed a few songs. Indeed one of his last events to attend was an open night at Col. John O'Mahony Park to view the newly built dressing rooms. He did not disappoint the occasion when he took the "mike" and sang a few songs including his favourite "The Road to Kildare". Shortly after Donie fell ill and spent the last couple of years in care. His removal took place from O'Sullivans funeral home, Kilbehenny, to St. Joseph's Church Kilbehenny. Following requiem mass burial took place in the church grounds. His coffin was draped in the Galtee Gaels colours in recognition of his great contribution to the Club. To his brother Pat, sister Margaret and her husband and family, sincere sympathy is extended. Ar deis Lamh De go raibh a h-anam deilis.
