Club Notes 5th Sep 2021.

Sympathy:

Sincere sympathy the family of Jack Colreavy, Rathoath, Co. Meath and formerly of Annaghoney, Gortletteragh who passed away last week. Jack was on the 1970 Senior Championship winning team and like his brothers, Fr Tom (RIP), Mick, Seamus and Hugh (RIP) was a very influential player with Gortletteragh in the 1960’s-1980’s. We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife Mary-Jo, daughter Michelle, sons Patrick and Dermot, sister Kathleen, brothers Mick and Seamus and extended families. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Sympathy:

We extend our sympathies also to the Woods family, Cattan on the recent passing of Mel’s nephew, Andrew O’Malley, ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

2021 Connacht Gold Senior Championship:

Last Friday evening Carrick on Shannon was the venue for the last game of the group stages against St Mary’s. Gortletteragh continued their battling performance of the last few weeks to book our place in the quarter-final. The first half was a fast flowing game and saw some good scores from play by both sides with Gortletteragh going into half-time with a two point lead. In the second half St Mary’s upped their game and raced into a four-point lead. However Gortletteragh’s ‘never say die’ attitude paid off and on the brink of full-time a high ball into the square found it’s way into St Mary’s net.  This was followed by an exchange of points from frees for both teams and one from play for Gortletteragh to give us a draw game on the final whistle. Final score 2-10 to 1-13. We send our best wishes to St Mary’s player Cian Singleton who sustained an injury during the game.

Corrib Oil Junior B Championship:

Next weekend we have our first game of the Junior B Championship when we meet St Mary’s in Carrick-on-Shannon on Sunday 12th September at 1pm.

U13’s – Div 1:

Rinn Gaels U13’s bowed out of the Barna Waste U13 Championship when they were defeated by Allen Gaels in the semi-final last Friday. On Wednesday last this group overcame Mohill in the quarter final with a great display of football all over the field. Unfortunately they had little recovery time before the semi-final with Allen Gaels on Friday evening where they again pulled out all the stops and played a great game of football, however the opposition proved too strong for our boys, Final score of 1-14 to 3-06.

Well done to this group of young lads and thank you to coaches Paddy McGirl, Kevin Heaney, James Cunningham, Kevin Mallon and Cian Mallon for the time given to this group, it’s very much appreciated.

U17’s:

Gortletteragh v St Mary’s on Monday 13thSeptember at 6.30pm in Carrick.
