Underage

Great to see the young guns in action after a long lay-off and this week we see match fixtures at last. Since our volunteer coaches got the go-ahead to train a few weeks they have done trojan work to get the youngsters fit again. We are blessed to have so many people training the boys and girls. Like so many other clubs Saturday morning is a joy to behold with hundreds of happy children learning the skills of our great games. The U13s play St Mary’s in last year’s U13 Shield Final on Thursday at a venue to be arranged and the U17 squad have a few challenges coming up.

Important Zoom Meeting

What a treat it was on Wed last to listen to Niall Brady, David Brady and Tomás O Sé give motivational speeches to players, mentors and any club member interested. David Clarke Mayo goalkeeper was supposed to speak but his three-week old baby was suddenly rushed to hospital. We hope the little baby makes a full recovery. The great Tomás O Sé stepped into his place at short notice and gave a great insight into playing the game. Niall Brady plays for Leitrim and as the County team’s nutritionist spoke on the importance of a healthy diet. David Brady one of Mayo’s finest players and a renowned motivator nationally emphasised the importance of mental health. It was a great privilege to hear their stories and the Club thank our Healthy Clubs Officer and Committee for working so hard to obtain their services.

Cathal Flynn RIP

Cathal Flynn another great Leitrim footballer departed this world last week. Cathal a Gorvagh man played minor for Fenagh but also lined out for Mohill with the great Pakie McGarty, Eddie Rowley and John Gordon in the 50s. He was a brilliant forward and at one stage in the 50s he was the top intercountry scorer nationwide, himself and Pakie were a formidable duo. Mohill Club extend deepest sympathy to his grieving family.  Ní beidh a leithéid arís ann. RIP Cathal.
