The Laois SFC semi-final draw has pitted Portarlington against Graiguecullen and Courtwood against St Joseph’s.
It follows the weekend’s quarter-finals which saw holders Portarlington wallop Arles-Killeen by 2-24 to 1-7, Courtwood upset Portlaoise by 4-11 to 0-14, St Joseph’s defeat Ballyroan-Abbey 2-16 to 2-14 and Graiguecullen overcome local rivals Killeshin by 3-11 to 0-16.
Meanwhile, Rathdowney/Errill have successfully appealed the recent decision by Laois CCC to order a replay of their Laois PIHC quarter-final against Colt/Shanahoe.
In shades of the infamous 1998 All-Ireland SHC semi-final between Offaly and Clare, referee Patrick Phelan mistakenly blew for full-time in the 58th minute. Rathdowney/Erill were leading 2-22 to 1-15 at the time, which led to a replay being granted to Colt/Shanahoe.
The refixture was due to take place yesterday, but didn’t go ahead following Rathdowney/Errill’s counter appeal. As things stand, Rathdowney/Errill will face Mountmellick in the semi-final next Saturday evening in Trumera.
