Portarlington are through to the semi-finals of the Leinster club senior football championship after holding off St Loman’s in Portlaoise earlier today.

The Laois champions had led by eight at one stage during the opening half at O’Moore Park only for their Westmeath counterparts to draw the game level early on in the restart.

Ronan Coffey, Colm Murphy, Paddy O’Sullivan and Adam Ryan all kicked early points for Portarlington before Rioghan Murphy netted their goal just seven minutes in.

To their credit, St Loman’s responded brilliantly as the scores of John Heslin and Ronan O’Toole left just a goal in it when the half-time whistle sounded (1-7 to 0-7).

Ryan and Sam McCartan exchanged points early on in the resumption and a superbly taken goal by TJ Cox would have the Mullingar men level.

Heslin would nudge the Lake County champions in front before Colm Murphy steadied the ship for Portarlington and scores from Ryan, Colm Murphy, Jake Foster and sub Stephen O’Neill after the second water break were enough to see them over the line and towards a date with Kilmacud Crokes on December 18.
