'Stephens dedicate win to Mulvin

November 07, 2008
James Stephens' surprise Leinster Intermediate Football Club Championship victory over Carnew Emmets of Wicklow had a lot to do with one figure in the club, according to the players. Team official, Jim Mulvin has been the driving force behind football in the club for so long now and centre-back, as well as hurling All Star, Jackie Tyrell says that the victory over the Wicklow champions at Arklow last Sunday was one he enjoyed. "The win was for Jim," explained Tyrell. "He loves the game and he does everything he can to keep it going. He enjoyed this I can tell you. As for the performance itself, Tyrell admits there was some shock with the win but thinks that the game fell well for Stephens. "This was a nice pick me up after the disappointment of losing the hurling final," he admitted. "We actually played well, and hopefully we can drive on further in the competition. "We shocked ourselves a bit, I suppose. We didn't travel with great expectations, but once we got into the game and got going we were flying."
