Cathal Mannion and Aaron Niland starred as Galway inflicted Kilkenny with their third defeat of the Allianz Hurling League Division 1A campaign this evening.
The Tribesmen’s emphatic 0-35 to 0-17 victory at Pearse Stadium marks their third in the league, moving them up to second in the table ahead of this evening’s other clash in the top tier between Limerick and Cork (7pm).
Niland sent over six scores for the home side inside the opening 20 minutes as they opened up a 0-10 to 0-5 lead and more points from the Tribesmen’s marksman, along with Rory Burke and Thomas Monaghan would have them 0-15 to 0-9 up at the break.
Micheál Donoghue’s men would hit the first seven points of the restart to turn the screw of the Leinster champions who finally got off the mark for the second-half through John Donnelly on 51 minutes.
Tom Phelan and Cian Kenny raised white flags to bring the difference back to 10 points, but Galway got motoring again with more points from ‘Man of the Match’ Mannion, Niland, Burke and TJ Brennan before Conor Cooney rounded off their impressive tally late on.
