St Kieran’s College, Kilkenny advanced to their eight consecutive Croke Cup final this afternoon thanks to a 3-13 to 2-9 victory over Cashel Community School in Birr.

Despite conceding an early Ronan Connolly goal, the Kilkenny students were able to steady their ship and fired in goals via Donagh Murphy and Ted Dunne that saw them hit the front.

Jeff Neary combined with Padraig Naddy for the victors’ third goal and it’d send Brian Dowling’s lads in at half-time with a 3-6 to 1-6 advantage.

Bobby Power netted the Munster champions’ second goal after the turnaround but it wasn’t enough, as Harry Shine kept the points coming for St Kiernan’s to help record another semi-final victory.

The Kilkenny College now look forward to a Croke Park date against Presentation College, Athenry on St Patrick’s Day after the Galway students edged out Thurles CBS by 0-15 to 0-14 in the later game at St Brendan’s Park.

Aaron Niland led the way for the would-be winners with 0-9 over the hour while Tiaran Lee’s four points from play would also prove crucial.

In an airtight semi-final encounter, Presentation Athenry led by 0-9 to 0-8 at the end of the first-half and the sides would be level three more times in the second-half before the Galway lads pulled two clear late on, which would be enough to win out by the minimum in the end.
