A Gearoid Dunne hat-trick of goals helped Kilkenny avenge last Sunday week's Allianz Hurling League loss to Tipperary in yesterday's Dillon Quirke Foundation tournament game at FBD Semple Stadium.

The corner forward bagged 3-1 before a bumper attendance of 4,628. Proceeds from the game will go to the Dillion Quirke Foundation which was set up the Quirke family in memory of Dillon Quirke. The 24-year-old was playing for his club Clonoulty-Rossmore against Kilruane McDonaghs in the Tipperary SHC last August when he collapsed and died of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS). Dillon won All-Ireland minor and U21 medals before making the wing back position his own on the Tipp senior team last season.

Both counties were in experimental mood for a game which the Cats controlled from the off. First half goals from Dunne (two) and Martin Keoghan had them perched on a 3-12 to 0-13 half-time lead. Tipp resumed with five unanswered points to reduce the gap, but Dunne's third green flag in the 48th minute propelled the visitors to a comfortable 4-20 to 0-25 victory.
