Dublin kept it to script against Kildare with a 3-25 to 0-13 victory in Newbridge this afternoon to advance to the quarter-finals of the All-Ireland senior hurling championship.
The capital men brought the curtain down on the Lilywhites’ brilliant season in emphatic fashion, as Ronan Hayes and Diarmaid Ó Dúlaing netted goals for them in the opening quarter of an hour, and the points of Sean Currie, Ó Dúlaing and Cian O’Sullivan would have them 11 ahead by the 20th minute.
A Jack Sheridan free would be the only Kildare response to Ó Dúlaing’s goal, with the visitors going on to hold a 2-14 to 0-5 advantage at the break.
Fergal Whitely bagged the third goal for Niall Ó Ceallacháin’s charges with six minutes left in normal time as they cruised into the quarter-finals of the Liam MacCarthy Cup race with a 21-point win in the end.
Dublin now look forward to a date with Limerick next Saturday at a neutral venue where the winners will progress to an All-Ireland semi-final date with Kilkenny on the weekend of July 5/6.
