The second phase of renovations has commenced at Tralee's Austin Stack Park.
The work is part of a long-term plan to upgrade all facilities at the venue. The first phase involved resurfacing and laying a sand-based pitch plus associated drainage works.
The second phase, which started last week, will comprise: the levelling and concreting of the John Mitchel's end terracing; installation of a new modern floodlighting system; removal of the wire perimeter fencing to be replaced with a spectator-friendly low wall topped by metal horizontal bars; the perimeter wall to have safety gates to allow pitch access for spectators in the event of an emergency; and upgrading of the team dugouts to include elevated seating.
Kerry County Board hopes to have the renovations completed by March 6th, when Austin Stack Park is set to re-open to host a national league double bill with the Kingdom hosting Wexford in hurling and Donegal in football.
