Kerry were made battle to end for their second win of the Allianz Football League campaign as they edged out Armagh by 0-12 to 0-11 in Tralee this evening.
Played before a crowd of 11,603 at Austin Stack Park, this one was airtight throughout and saw the All-Ireland champions having to dig their deepest in the closing stages to fashion Tony Brosnan and Donal O’Sullivan points that saw them over the line.
The sides had been level four times during the opening 35 minutes, with Stefan Campbell’s point sending them in all square on 0-6 apiece.
Greg McCabe nudged the Orchard men in front early in the restart and Conor Turbitt would double their advantage ahead of the home side sending over the next three scores.
Goals chances were at a premium all evening and, while Kieran McGeeney’s side would hit the front again via Ethan Rafferty’s free being backed up by Jarlath Og Burns, it would not be enough for the visitors.
David Clifford, who was held scoreless from open play, drew the game level at 0-10 each with a 67th minute free ahead of Bronan and O’Sullivan ensuring the win as Rian O’Neill’s last ditch effort at a goal from a free on the edge of the Kerry square was blasted over.
