Meath's Willie Mahedy and Wicklow's Don Hyland contest the high ball during the NHL Div 3 clash at Pairc Tailteann
Wicklow's best-known hurler, Don Hyland, has announced his inter-county retirement at the age of 39.
The Carnew clubman, who retired twice before only to be persuaded to return in 2010 and 2011 to help Wicklow win the 3B and 3A NHL titles in successive years and also reach last year's Christy Ring Cup final, has been the standout hurler in the Garden County over the past 20 years.
A player with tremendous hurling skills and artistry, he played in six inter-provincial championships with Leinster from 1997 to 2003, winning two of them. He was only 16-years-old when, lining out in goal, he won the first of six Wicklow SHC medals, and has since won Kehoe Cup, National League and All-Ireland 'B' championship (2003) honours with his county.
