Galway camogie boss steps down

Galway senior camogie manager Noel Finn
Noel Finn has resigned as Galway camogie manager in the wake of last Sunday's heartbreaking All-Ireland final defeat to Wexford.

It was a case of déjà vu for the Westerners, who were also lost last year's O'Duffy Cup decider to the Model County. Appointed senior manager for a second spell at the beginning of last year, Finn had previously enjoyed All-Ireland success with the Galway junior and intermediate sides. Despite his best efforts, however, he was unable to repeat the trick with the seniors who succumbed to a late Wexford rally at Croke Park on Sunday.

"Look it's really, really, really hard to take - what more can I say?" he said afterwards.

"I thought all our backs played well, things just didn't happen for our forwards. We were three or four points up, we had a chance to push on and missed a few scores to go five or six up and I think that was the difference . . . I felt when Tara (Rutledge) got the goal that we were hurling well and going to push on but it just didn't happen.

"Other days we were putting up big scores, getting them easy, today they were just the wrong side of the posts, a foot, inches, whatever. But fair play to (Wexford), they were All-Ireland champions last year and they showed why they are All-Ireland champions."
