Kilkenny's Colin Fennelly with Daithi Burke of Galway

Daithí Burke has lost his appeal against the red card he received in the closing stages of Galway's Allianz Hurling League win over Dublin last Sunday.

The Galway captain will miss tomorrow's visit of All-Ireland champions Limerick to Pearse Stadium after the Central Hearings Committee (CHC) upheld his proposed one-match ban last night. Burke was one of three Galway players to see red following an incident with Chris Crummey. Conor Whelan is also suspended for tomorrow's game.

A CHC statement read: "An Lár Choiste Cheannais na gComortaisí took Disciplinary Action against Dáithí de Búrca, alleging a breach of Riail 7.2 (b), Category III, T.O. 2023, that is, “Behaving in any way which is dangerous to an opponent”.

"Dáithí de Búrca requested a Hearing which took place on 14ú Márta 2024. An Lár Choiste Éisteachta (Central Hearings Committee) found the Infraction proven, and imposed the following penalty - One Match Suspension in the same Code and at the same Level, applicable to the next game in the combination of National League/Inter-County Senior Championship, even if that game occurs in the following year."
