Limerick hurling boss John Kiely questioned the context of the incident that saw Kyle Hayes escape a red card against Galway.

Already on a yellow card, Hayes was fortunate not to receive his marching orders for striking Galway forward Brian Concannon's faceguard with his hurl during the closing stages of the All-Ireland champions' Allianz League 0-24 to 0-19 victory in Salthill.

When questioned by the media about the incident afterwards, Kiely replied: “In what context? There is a context as well. I’ve no doubt there was contact there but what was the context? How did it come about? We’ll have to wait and see.

“I saw it from whatever width the pitch is, 85 or 90 metres. Kyle’s back was to me – all I could see was him going like that [putting his arm/ hurl back] – and he was looking out at the terrace. I don’t know, I’ll have to see it back again."
