St Thomas’ remain on course for their fifth consecutive Galway senior hurling championship title after seeing off Cappataggle by 1-19 to 0-16 at Kenny Park.

Bernard Burke’s late goal sealed the deal for the holders in a quarter-final clash where they led by as many as nine points.

After having the wind at their backs, St Thomas’ carried in a 0-13 to 0-5 lead at half-time and continued to cruised after the turnaround before Burke’s strike stamped their semi-final ticket.

Earlier at the Athenry venue, Clarinbridge made their goals count in a 3-12 to 1-15 victory over Tommy Larkins.

Having trailed 0-12 to 0-5 at the half, last year’s runners up fired in majors via Gavin Lee, Mark Kennedy and skipper TJ Brennan to take control and eventually clinch a victory which sees them returning to the last four.
