Lee Keegan looks set to miss Mayo’s crunch All-Ireland SFC Round 4 qualifier against Galway this Saturday evening.

The 2016 Footballer of the Year is understood to have suffered ankle ligament damage during last weekend’s one-point win over Armagh in Castlebar.

Jason Doherty also picked up an ankle injury in the same game but the issue in not thought to be as serious for the Burrishoole forward, meaning he could feature against the Tribesmen at the Gaelic Grounds on Saturday (throw-in 7pm).

A statement on behalf of Mayo GAA yesterday read: “During Saturday night’s game with Armagh both Lee Keegan and Jason Doherty suffered ankle injuries.

“Both players were immediately assessed by the Mayo senior medical team and they are now working on their rehab programmes.

“As with any injury or medical intervention the privacy and confidentiality from a medical perspective is important for the players in allowing them the time for a full recovery. We will monitor their progress closely over the coming weeks.”
