This weekend sees the opening round of the Galway Senior Hurling Championship and Intermediate Championship. John Mulholland is still the leader in local GAA betting with their odds compilers setting the odds that many bookmakers nationwide watch to duplicate. The outright markets have been set since the start of the year and Kevin Breslin of John Mulhollands has identified who the early money teams. "The biggest market mover in the outright markets this season has been Cappataggle from 6/1 into 7/2 in the Intermediate market. Either somebody likes what they are seeing in training or a few lads in the panel fancy a wee win bonus for themselves."

The betting in the Senior Championship cannot split pits last season's All Ireland champions St Thomas at 9/4 and the usual favourites Portumna at 5/2. It's extremely hard to defend this title with only Portumna and Athenry doing so in the past 15 years. Clarinbridge had a big fall from grace after reaching the summit so the jury is still out on St Thomas for the time being.
