Not based on the standard on display throughout the year in our county championship, particularly the final

The Gaels certainly preparing properly for Shelmaliers. Travelled to Carlow at weekend to play Ballygunner in a challenge, lost by 5-6 which is more than respectable, BG favourites to win AI Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 2865 - 03/11/2026 12:05:24 2699331 Link 1 |

Westmeath schools have a team in senior A again alongside CBS Mullingar, good to see. The more young hurlers exposed to this level the better. Dheen (Westmeath) - Posts: 1185 - 03/11/2026 13:56:40 2699336 Link 1 |

It was seniors. Gaels lost by a few points. They won a couple of challenges against notable opposition too though.

We as Westmeath Hurling supporters have been here before blowing up teams and getting them complacent,i myself have been guilty of this too. They must remain focused and prepared for the task at hand with the team they are playing, nothing comes easy in this Leinster championship (wexford team performances have improved again after getting rid of their split championships). its arguably a stronger championship than its Munster counterpart at the moment. preddan (Kildare) - Posts: 844 - 04/11/2026 14:42:27 2699416 Link 0 |

I dont think we are blowing them up, just giving them a little credit. They are doing their best to prepare for it, they would be forgiven if they didnt give it much focus especially after winning a first county title since 2002, there's been huge celebrations however they having knuckled down and are putting in the work. Hopefully they give Shelmaliers a good game.

The Gaels getting very little credit for winning this championship. Hope they win just for that reason alone. Gaawestmeath (Westmeath) - Posts: 148 - 04/11/2026 21:16:01 2699449 Link 0 |

Any thoughts on how Plunketts should get on versus the Carlow champs? Should be aiming for a win there I imagine Barnsey1234 (Tipperary) - Posts: 2 - 05/11/2026 10:27:24 2699471 Link 0 |

Best of luck to the Gaels on Sunday, I would give them a good chance. Disappointing to hear that the combined schools senior A team have withdrawn from the competition, they were due to play Meath schools this weekend. Excluding CBS surely there are 15 players in the rest of the schools to represent the county. Squareball.Squareball (Westmeath) - Posts: 10 - 05/11/2026 11:34:47 2699478 Link 1 |
