His CV is as good as you could hope for, he knows everything about the game, especially the new rules but, an outside manager that might be just teeing himself up for another run at the Kerry job when it becomes available. Milage Baby! Ah seriously, Id be very happy with Fitzmaurice, with a mix of Galwegian selectors and also an overlap from previous (Dave Morris). Id like to see the likes of Dilvily (unlikely), Alan Glynn and Dónal Ó Flahtharta in the background. As for the team/tactics: - Pick a GK and stick to him - Have a Plan A, B and even C kick out strategy - I think Mayo showed that an aggressive defense with a fast turnover is key - Take a shot if its on at all, playing over and back the arc has killed us (and killed Kerry in the final) - Injection on youth and pace (Ó Laoi was playing great when uninjured this year, Thompson to come back and be crucial...plus C Costello, McGlinchy and Mulryan, how do we bring on Liam Ó Conghaile and Ciallian Ó Curraoin?) Feels like a massive statement of intent if it is indeed Fitzmaurice am happy wit hthat appointment as no one within county stood out bar Kevin O Brien but I feel IC experience needed. The commute will be tough on him but with his job teacher/principal its manageable. It will be interesting to see who is backroom team will be. I dont envisage any reitrements etc except maybe Conroy and that is purely due to age he will be 37 by championship 2027. I hope its announced and confirmed soon and he is at county semi finals etc. He will def need a backroom team with Galway men and be interesting to see who they are. Had them beat only for Kevin McMennamin magic -2014 He broke Mayos hearts in the semis and outthought James Horan both times He also broke a long held tradition and locked out fans from Kerry training and then broke every Kerry tradition by beating Donegal in the final playing puke football and outfoxing Jim McGuinness who was the only man that outfoxed Jim Gavin. -2015 he brought them back to play Dublin in the final where they went down by three in a closely enough fought gane and was the first to really challenge and disrupt Cluxtons kickouts. This was done during a massive transistion for Kerry with the greats of the noughties retiring to be replaced by players not of equal calibre. 2016 to 2018 showed that with Kerry not at Dublin or Mayos level. Overall the man has a good footballing brain, is not afraid to rustle feathers or kow-tow to the Kerry mafia so he will have no issue doing whatever needs to be done in Galway. Yere grown men ffs." Agree on the 2014 final two big errors got Kerry over the line and Donegal did them a favor by taking out Dublin. When you look back the 2014,2015 and drawn 2016 All Ireland finals they were all was poor error ridden matches. Who a manager has in his management team is just as important nowadays, I doubt Eamon Fitzmaurice will be working alongside mediocre Cavan coaches he will demand high quality coaches.
